9   Link   Collaborative Research Networks (CRNs)
Collaborative Research Networks (CRNs) were originally developed, with the assistance of a grant from the National Science Foundation, at the 2000 Annual Meeting in Miami to facilitate international research collaboration in selected topics for presentation at the meeting in Budapest in July 2001. After those meetings, some CRNs decided to continue and build on their success by expanding their network of scholars. African Power and Politics Programme: Power and Politics in Africa is a five-year program of research and policy engagement launched in 2007. It brings together research centers and think-tanks in Africa, Europe and the USA with funding from the UK Department for International Development and the Advisory Board of Irish Aid. It is led by staff of the Overseas Development Institute, London. The programme is dedicated to "discovering institutions that work for poor people". That means exploring the kinds of political, economic and social arrangements that, if adopted, would enable countries of sub-Saharan Africa to make faster progress towards development and the elimination of extreme poverty.

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s Africa Security and Governance (ASG) project works closely with civil society partners in Africa to map the security-related activities of external actors in sub-Saharan Africa to assess the impact of these activities on security sector governance, and to support African civil society organizations in analyzing security- and governance-related issues and raising awareness about these at home and abroad.
