The Institute of African Studies (IAS) is Columbia University's central forum and resource for African-centered academic research, program development, curriculum administration, student advisement, and local, national, and international dialogue and action on Africa. Founded in 1959, the IAS prepares generations of Africa practitioners for careers in development, diplomacy, business, governance, journalism, law, human rights, academic research, and teaching.

The International Directory of African Studies Scholars (IDASS) provides links to a collection of a wide range of resources. It contains an international directory of African Studies scholars and provides numerous useful resources including articles on a variety of subjects, ranging from African studies to biology to Tibetan Studies to Women’s Studies.

6   Link   Centre for Human Rights, based at the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria
The Centre for Human Rights, based at the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, is both an academic department and a non-governmental organisation. The Centre for Human Rights works towards human rights education in Africa, a greater awareness of human rights, the wide dissemination of publications on human rights in Africa, and the improvement of the rights of women, people living with HIV, indigenous peoples, sexual minorities and other disadvantaged or marginalized persons or groups across the continent. The Centre has research including publications on issues such as AIDS, access to medication, and gender, among others.
7   Link   University of the Witwatersrand School of Law
University of the Witwatersrand School of Law: Located in Johannesburg, the Oliver Schreiner School of Law includes the subjects Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, Human Rights Law, International Law, Labor Law and Property Law. Students can earn a law degree or a PhD, and the school publishes a journal, the South African Journal on Human Rights.

Africa University Institute of Peace, Leadership, and Governance: Africa University is an independent pan-African institution of higher learning located in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The Institute of Peace, Leadership and Governance was approved by the Board of Directors to provide training, research and consultancy in peace, leadership and governance. The Institute offers post-graduate degrees, diplomas and certificates.
