1   Link   Universal Human Rights Index
The Universal Human Rights Index is a research tool brought provided by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The Index provides easy access to country-specific human rights information emanating from international human rights mechanisms in the United Nations system. It compiles conclusions and recommendations addressed by UN independent experts to specific countries in view of improving the human rights situation.
2   Link   Small Arms Survey
The Small Arms Survey is an independent research project located at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. It serves as the principal international source of public information on all aspects of small arms and armed violence and as a resource for governments, policy-makers, researchers, and activists. The project has an international staff with expertise in security studies, political science, international public policy, law, economics, development studies, conflict resolution, criminology, and sociology.
3   Link   Collaborative Research Networks
Collaborative Research Networks (CRNs) were originally developed, with the assistance of a grant from the National Science Foundation, at the 2000 Annual Meeting in Miami to facilitate international research collaboration in selected topics for presentation at the meeting in Budapest in July 2001. After those meetings, some CRNs decided to continue and build on their success by expanding their network of scholars. 5   Link   Médecins Sans Frontières
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF-also known as Doctors Without Borders) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 60 countries. MSF publishes reports on African issues such as health care and conflicts including the war in Darfur.
6   Link   Global Witness
For the past 15 years, Global Witness has run international campaigns on the nexus of development, the environment and trade. Global Witness provides reports on issues in various African countries, such as oil in Sudan and natural resources in the DRC.
7   Link   International Rescue Committee (IRC)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. The IRC provides news and multimedia features on various African countries as well as a research library.
8   Link   Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP)
The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) is a coalition of diverse organizations and professionals working together to build sustainable peace and security worldwide. Not entirely Africa focused, but does work in Africa and on African conflicts such as the Congo. The AfP provides a forum with a career center, news publications, and resources provided by partner organizations and others. Must become a member to access certain sections of the website, such as the resources section.
9   Link   Consensus Building Institute (CBI)
The Consensus Building Institute (CBI) is a not-for-profit organization created by leading practitioners and theory builders in the fields of negotiation and dispute resolution. CBI works with leaders, advocates, experts, and communities to promote effective negotiations, build consensus, and resolve conflicts. Not entirely Africa focused, but does work in Africa. CBI has articles on general conflict resolution issues such as negotiation and dispute resolution, as well as books written by staff members on conflict resolution issues.
10   Link   Public Conversations Project (PCP)
Since 1989, the Public Conversations Project (PCP) has worked in the U.S. and around the world facilitating dialogues on a wide range of contentious issues including abortion, forest management, homosexuality and faith, biodiversity, the use of animals in research, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and many others. PCP aims to reduce rancor in public squares and promote effective communication within organizations and communities. It also provides workshops and customized trainings that teach people how to use its dialogue methods. Not entirely Africa focused, but does work in Africa.
11   Link   Right to Play
Right to Play is committed to every child’s right to play. They give children a chance to become constructive participants in society, regardless of gender, disability, ethnicity, social background or religion. Through games and sports, they help create social change in communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Not entirely Africa focused but does work in Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
12   Link   Search for Common Ground
Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground works to transform the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving. They use a multi-faceted approach, employing media initiatives and working with local partners in government and civil society, to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies' capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the differences and act on the commonalities.
13   Link   Swisspeace
Swisspeace is a practice-oriented peace research institute. It carries out research on violent conflicts and their peaceful transformation. Through training, networking and exchange of experiences the Foundation supports Swiss and international organizations to build up their civilian peacebuilding capacities.
14   Link   United Nations Foundation
The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, children’s health, peace and security, and poverty eradication. Not entirely Africa focused, but does work in Africa.
15   Link   UPEACE/US
UPEACE/US is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2006 by a diverse community of educators and practitioners committed to implementing practical solutions for building a more peaceful world. This is achieved through the following program areas - (1) Innovative Conflict Prevention & Peace Education for Youth, (2) Professional & Civil Society Capacity Building for Peace, and (3) The Global Network for Upeacebuilders.
16   Link   Virgin Unite
Virgin Unite is the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group. They unite people to tackle tough social and environmental problems with an entrepreneurial approach. Their aim is to help revolutionize the way businesses and the social sector work together. Virgin Unite focuses on two areas: 1. Incubating New Global Leadership Models: Creating new models to address conflict, climate change and disease. A number of their current and past programs have operated in Africa.
17   Link   Religions for Peace
Religions for Peace is the largest international coalition of representatives from the world’s great religions dedicated to promoting peace. Respecting religious differences while celebrating our common humanity, Religions for Peace is active on every continent and in some of the most troubled areas of the world, creating multi-religious partnerships to confront our most dire issues: stopping war, ending poverty, and protecting the earth.
18   Link   World Centers of Compassion for Children International
The World Centers of Compassion for Children International’s mission is to create a strong political voice for children in areas of stress due to war, hunger or social, economic, or political upheaval and to respond to their expressed needs materially and emotionally.
19   Link   Peace Appeal Foundation
The Peace Appeal Foundation was launched with a mandate from five Nobel Peace Laureates, Adolfo Esquivel, Desmond Mpilo Tutu, Frederik Willem de Klerk, Mairead Maguire, and Nelson Mandela, to provide leadership in support of the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the children of the world. Since the late 1990s, the Appeal has operated as a network of a diverse range of social entrepreneurs, conflict resolution professionals, leaders from both business and government as well as academics and others dedicated to the cause of peace. Not entirely Africa focused, but has projects in Africa.
20   Link   Peace Direct
Peace Direct finds local peace-builders, funds their programs to increase their impact, and promotes their work to those in the wider world who can help with finance and influence. Peace Direct is working with peace builders in Burundi, the DRC, Sudan, and Zimbabwe.
